10 cases of American Intervention in Latin America

listverse compiles another gooder. This time a tally of horrendous US backed invasions in the Latin Americas.

My Mum is from Grenada and i was shocked/not shocked at all to find it on this list. Shocked that people knew about what happened on the isle of spice, and not shocked because after growing up hearing the stories from my family of the atrocities done by the US admin during the invasion I always understood the full gravity of what Reagan and his racist elitist anglo-gangbanging gang really did.
Makes me sick to my stomach to think about it now. Bishop, Fidel and Che are greatly admired in Grenada even to this day. Mr.R thankfully is NOT.
Grenada doesn’t have Reagan to thank for sh*t.

link Thanks for the great list GringoJoe! :)

The Bailout

The Bailout

All this talk about “stimulus packages” and “bailouts”…

A billion dollars…

A hundred billion dollars…

Eight hundred billion dollars…

One TRILLION dollars…

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I’d take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We’ll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

Attachment 22370

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2″ thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Attachment 22371

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

Attachment 22372

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet…

Attachment 22373

And $1 BILLION dollars… now we’re really getting somewhere…

Attachment 22374

Next we’ll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we’ve been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it’s a million million. It’s a thousand billion. It’s a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It’s pretty surprising.

Go ahead…

Scroll down…

Ladies and gentlemen… I give you $1 trillion dollars..

Attachment 22375

(And notice those pallets are double stacked.)

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase “trillion dollars”… that’s what they’re talking about.

Thanks for the forward cid! get a blog!

Neo-Nazis, activists clash in Calgary

I hate that I’m quoting the EdmontonSun, the smut newspaper source of this fair capitol city but….White supremacists and anti-racist demonstrators clashed in Calgary’s downtown core yesterday.

oh thank god i found a better source. Here is the CBC.ca source:

“Bottles, rocks and signs were thrown by both sides and at least two people received treatment for head injuries. No one was seriously injured.

More than 400 people supporting the Calgary chapter of the Anti-Racist Action group gathered outside Calgary City Hall Saturday morning to commemorate the UN-sponsored International Day to Eliminate Racial Discrimination.

They were met at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 6th Street SW at about 3 p.m. by about 50 members of the neo-Nazi Aryan Guard. The group’s members, many of whom covered their faces with scarves and sunglasses to conceal their identities, brandished Nazi flags and placards emblazoned with white pride slogans.

They had begun their march commemorating “White Pride World Day” near Mewata Armouries and were making their way to City Hall, chanting slogans, when the anti-racism demonstrators blocked their path.

Jason Devine, a spokesman for Anti-Racist Action, said his group took the neo-Nazi march as “spit in the face of all Canadians and anyone in the world who is against racism. So we’re here to demonstrate our diversity and unity and also to oppose racism.”

Police, on hand to keep the groups separated, were hard pressed to keep the two sides apart, and had to break up several fights.

Many members of the anti-racism contingent criticized police officers for protecting the neo-Nazi group.

The city of Calgary said in a statement that “the role of the Calgary Police Service at public protests is to ensure public and officer safety and to protect individual rights to express their views peacefully as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”

The city said Calgary Transit buses experienced some delays because of the melee.

Police arrested three people. Charges are pending.

A study by Statistics Canada released in June showed Calgary had the highest rate of hate-motivated crime in the country. In 2006, 92 hate crimes were reported in the city — about nine incidents for every 100,000 people in the city, or three times higher than the national average of three per 100,000.

i say:

This gives me the heebee geebees hardcore. Hopefully the anti-racists got a few good shots in. The cops protected the aryans while the anti-racist crowds were heard screaming “Don’t protect these fuckers” to the police…chants which fell on deaf ears taking that within the criminal statute these fuckers have “rights” . Isn’t that convienient?? If only my people and many others like myself had that luxury a few year ago of being protected by law ourselves. It’s all a big load of bullshit. As a minority and member of the queer community i know what it feels like to be on lower side of Justice’s scale and to see the police protecting these idiots is more than infuriating. It’s a reminder why i don’t trust cops worth a god damn. They say an eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind, but i don’t need sight if I know who to fight. OoOoh i should copyright that shit . hahaha

but really. I wish i knew about this protest ahead of time and not a day after the fact.

Iraqi Journalist Throws Shoes At George Bush!

Now, although he missed the thought was appreciated world-wide.

An Iraqi television journalist hurled two shoes at President Bush on Sunday during a joint news conference Bush was holding with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to mark the signing of a U.S.-Iraq security agreement. Bush had just finished his prepared remarks in which he said the security agreement was made possible by the U.S. surge of troops earlier this year, whhen the journalist, Muthathar al Zaidi pulled his shoes off and hurled them at the president. “This is a goodbye kiss, you dog,” Zaidi shouted.”
